1. Holiday history of 👩 International Women’s Day

The prerequisite for the creation of the holiday was March of Empty Pots and Pans, which took place on March 8, 1857. On that day, textile workers from New York marched through the city protesting against low-paying jobs and poor ⚒️ Working conditions.

The very idea of International Women’s Day originated in the early 20th century when the second International Conference of Working Women was held in 1910. Clara Zetkin put forward the main goal of the future holiday, which was to defend women’s rights.

In 1975, the UN officially approved International Women’s Day. It has been celebrated every year since that time. Every year a certain theme is assigned to the holiday. There is no tradition to celebrate International Women’s Day in the 🇺🇸 United States, in general, but throughout March it is customary to honor the history of women.
