Holiday history:

It is believed that this holiday originates from the cult of the god of laughter from Ancient Rome. It was customary to arrange celebrations in April in honor of him.

Over time this holiday has spread widely throughout the world. For example, in 1509, a poet from ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท France in his work used the casual expression โ€œApril ๐ŸŸ Fishโ€ which means โ€œApril Foolsโ€™ jokeโ€. And in 1539, a nobleman from Flanders became famous thanks to his practical joke. On the first day of April, he gave false orders to his subjects.

There is also a version that this holiday appeared in connection with the adoption of the Gregorian ๐Ÿ“… Calendar in 1582. Until that time, ๐ŸŽ„ New Year was celebrated at the end of ๐ŸŒท March. And after the adoption they start to celebrate it in winter, as we do now. Therefore, those people who celebrated the beginning of New Year by old style, from March 25 to April 1, were usually presented with โ€œstupid ๐ŸŽ Giftsโ€ and called โ€œApril Foolsโ€.

But specifically, the expression โ€œFools Holy Dayโ€ was first mentioned by John Aubrey in 1686. 10 years later, Londoners were playing people with the main then-popular joke โ€œThe Annual Ceremony of Washing the ๐Ÿฆ Lionsโ€ at the Tower of London. Then several Londoners invited the townspeople to the royal zoo for the washing of the lions. The joke was that there were no lions in the zoo.

Traditions and Symbols:

On this day, people traditionally play jokes on acquaintances, relatives, and ๐Ÿค Friends, as well as play various small dirty pranks.

In ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ England, on April Foolsโ€™ Day, it is customary to joke and play pranks only until ๐Ÿ•› Noon. And the person who does it after noon is called April Fool.

In Scotland, this holiday is called Gawk Day because of a common joke. The traditional prank was to ask someone to deliver a sealed โœ‰๏ธ Letter with a request for help. When the letter was opened, it had the following message: โ€œDinna ๐Ÿ˜† Laugh, dinna ๐Ÿ˜€ Smile, hunt the gawk another mileโ€. After the person delivers the letter to the recipient, he must read it and send a courier to the next person, explaining that this is the only way to help.
