1. Holiday history of the ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ’€๐ŸŒน Day of the Dead

The roots of the holiday go back to the times of the Aztecs and Mayans, who believed in an afterlife. They believed that death is a transition from the earthly world to another. Based on this assumption, the ๐Ÿ‘ป Soul doesnโ€™t die but continues to exist after death. Also, the ancient peoples believed that the souls of the dead, within a month, come to visit their ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Loved ones.

Interesting fact: Previously, the Aztecs celebrated this holiday in ๐ŸŽ August and the celebrations lasted a whole month, but with the arrival of the colonialists, the date of the holiday shifted to All Saintsโ€™ Day.

2. Traditions and symbols of the ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ’€๐ŸŒน Day of the Dead

The main attribute of the Day of the Dead is the altar. It is believed that it is a portal from the underworld, through which the souls of the deceased can visit their loved ones in the real world. Each ๐Ÿ‘ช Family builds its own altar and erects it at their ๐Ÿ  Home or a relativeโ€™s ๐Ÿชฆ Grave. It should be decorated with ๐ŸŸ  Orange ๐ŸŒบ Marigolds, which are believed to attract the souls of the deceased, ๐ŸŽ Gifts, and treats. Also, there must be ๐Ÿ–ผ Photographs of the deceased, a ๐Ÿบ Jug of ๐Ÿ’ง Water, sweet ๐Ÿž Bread, paper products, and ๐Ÿ•ฏ Candles inside the altar. These customs are beautifully reflected in the 2017 cartoon โ€œCocoโ€.

The main symbols of this holiday are the figurines of Katrina and Calavera, which are the image of ๐Ÿ’€ Skulls on various objects, for example, on ๐Ÿช Cookies.

During the days of the celebration ๐Ÿ’ƒ Carnivals, concerts, and various entertainment programs are held. Many people dress up as Katrina, โ˜ ๏ธ Skeletons, and also have skulls on their faces.
