☪️ Ramadan

Ramadan or Ramazan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar in which it is customary to fast. The date of the fast changes annually, depending on the 🌑 Lunar calendar.

Interesting fact: In 2021, Instagram released a pack of three Ramadan stickers: 🌙 Crescent and ⭐ Star, 🕌 Mosque, and Dish with Dates and ☕ Tea.

Holiday history:

It is believed that the celebration of Ramadan began in memory of God’s revelations to the Prophet Muhammad through the archangel Gabriel, which took place around 610 BC. These revelations formed the basis of the Koran, the holy 📔 Book of Muslims.

The name of the month comes from Ar-ramad, which is translated from Arabic as “scorching heat”. At the end of the month of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate one of their main holidays Eid al-Adha.

Traditions and Symbols:

Traditionally, there is a fast in Ramadan, which begins at 🌅 Dawn and ends at 🌇 Sunset. During this time you must 🙅‍♂️ Give up on 🥗 Food, 🍵 Drinks, 🚬 Cigarettes, sexual activity, and 🤬 Swear words. The main purpose of fasting is the purification of the soul, therefore during this period, you must read Koran, 🧎‍♂️ Pray and visit 🕌 Mosques.

Traditionally, you must have pre-dawn and evening meals. The first is suhoor, you need to start it with the first signs of dawn before the Fajr prayer. The evening meal is called Iftar and is served immediately after sunset. Traditionally, people eat dates and water in Iftar.

During the remaining 10 days of Ramadan, you need to visit mosques and worship. Then, a few days before the end of Ramadan, people celebrate the 🌃 Night of Al Qadr or the Night of Determination, which is the time when the revelations of Allah became available to Muhammad. The end of Ramadan is 🎉 Celebrated with a large holiday — Eid al-Fitr (or Uraza Bayram). It lasts for 3 days after the end of Ramadan.
