1. Holiday history of πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€πŸš€ Cosmonautics Day

On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin made his first flight around the 🌐 Orbit of the planet 🌎 Earth on the Vostok-1 πŸš€ Spacecraft. It lasted 108 minutes.

Cosmonautics Day was approved in the USSR on the initiative of German Titov, a pilot-cosmonaut who made the first longest flight around Earth, which lasted for 25 hours, in 1962.

Already in 1968, the holiday gained international status by decree of the International Aviation Federation, which also changed the name of the holiday – World Day of πŸ›© Aviation and πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€ Cosmonautics.

And in 2011, the UN General Assembly approved a resolution co-authored with more than 60 states. This resolution officially declared April 12 as the International Day of Human Space Flight.

Interesting fact: Exactly 20 years after manned space flight, on April 12, 1981, the first manned flight took place, created under the Space Shuttle program.

2. Traditions and symbols of πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€πŸš€ Cosmonautics Day

Traditionally, on Cosmonautics Day, various events are held around the world: exhibitions, educational and scientific conferences, lectures, etc. The symbols of this holiday are the images of πŸ‘¨β€πŸš€ Astronauts and πŸš€ Rockets.

Also, since 2001, in honor of Cosmonautics Day, Yuri’s πŸŒƒ Night has been held, the meaning of which is to increase interest in the πŸ”­ Exploration of 🌌 Space and inspire discoveries. This celebration was founded by Loretta Hidalgo, George T. Whitesides, and Trish Garner in honor of the 40th anniversary of the first flight into space.

And in honor of the 50th anniversary, the crew of the 27th expedition from the International Space Station sent a video congratulation to Earth with a wish for a happy holiday in 3 languages: English, Italian, and Russian. At the same time, the crew members were dressed in ⬛ Black πŸ‘• T-shirts with Yuri’s Night logo.
