Emoji ⚚ “Caduceus” (also known as “Staff of Hermes”) appears as a wand with 🪽 Wings, which are placed at the handle and spread out to the sides. The symbol was released in Unicode 4.1 under “Miscellaneous Symbols”.

⚚ “Caduceus” has no official emoji version. As a result, it is primarily displayed in black and white. The exception to this is a number of Samsung platforms, where the symbol is placed against a purple square background. Nevertheless, the symbol has not been recognised by Unicode for public sharing.

Meaning of the symbol

The “Caduceus” symbol is an object of ancient Greek mythology called the “Staff of Hermes”. According to the legend, Hermes, the god of trade, luck and cunning, received the magical staff as a 🎁 Gift from Apollo, and tested its qualities on fighting 🐍 Snakes by making them stop and embrace each other.

Since then, the caduceus became an attribute of negotiators and later a symbol of commerce and trade. The emblem is also used to signify arcane knowledge and the occult, used in 🪐 Astronomy and alchemy, and is often found in medicine. Since antiquity, the staff pattern has been placed on coats of arms, monetary signs and 🪙 Coins.
