Netflix is an American public company that supplies and produces its films and TV series. It was founded by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings on August 29, 1997, in Scotts Valley, California.
The idea for the Netflix service came to the founders while traveling between their homes. The company started as the first online DVD rental shop in the world. Moreover, it had almost the entire catalog of films on DVD available at that time – 925 titles at its disposal, and the payment model and rental conditions were very similar to those of its main competitor (Blockbuster).
Netflix has been releasing its films and TV series, as well as TV shows, since 2013.
