☭ Hammer and Sickle
Meaning of ☭ Hammer and Sickle
The Hammer and Sickle ☭ was introduced in 1993 as one of the Unicode characters. The element doesn’t have an official emoji representation. Therefore, the sign is displayed in black and white on most devices.
The exception is digital platforms that support the original design. They render ☭ Hammer and Sickle in color and style. But the Unicode organization doesn’t recommend using the character as a universal emoji.
Symbol Meaning
Emblems depicting tools and implements were used in the Middle Ages. Two 🔨 Hammers were most often crossed to designate crafts. But sometimes, instead of one of the tools, they used a ⛏ Pickaxe or 🪓 Axe.
Later, in the second half of the 19th century, the hammer became the official symbol of the class conflict of European workers. And with the beginning of the Russian Revolution of the XX century, it was used to refer to the proletarian movement.
It was then that one of the two 🔨 Hammers was replaced with a farm sickle. The harvesting implement was placed on top of the working tool. That meant that the peasants joined the liberation movement.
After the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics’ creation, the crossed ☭ hammer and sickle were placed on the national flag. In the future, the symbol began to be placed on money, letterheads, and coats of arms. In other countries, the sign was used by parties and organizations of a communist orientation.
Use of the sign
When communicating on social networks, use the symbol every time you mention the Soviet era and things related to that period. For example, when you want to talk about your favorite holiday from the past or about a family Soviet 🚗 Car. Combine the ☭ Hammer and Sickle sign with the 🚩 Red Flag, ⭐ Five Pointed Star, or 🎈 Red Balloon emojis.
The symbol also comes in handy describing any work process. The sign will help you share your impressions about a 🏠 House renovation or talk about a difficult shift at a 🏭 Factory. Depending on the context, make combinations with other tools, add emoticons that show the time of day, indicate the mood.
Interesting fact: The ☭ Hammer and Sickle image has been on the 🇨🇱 Chilean currency since 1894. Symbols without political overtones denoted the unity of the builders and farmers of the country. Chilean pesos featuring ☭ implements survived until 1940. Copy & Paste this emoji:
